Runenblut (Germany)

Interview with Morgoth & Fjalar (Lord Azerath, 16 December 2006)

Azerath: Heil, Runenblut! How the work goes on?Runenblut: Hello! At the moment, we are doing a so called „creative break“, but soon the time will come, where snow and ice will cover our land. This will be the fundament for new resources to do a new album. Besides, we will go about it very calm. The latest album has to come across first. We have released 2 albums within one year now, and we hope to get some more reactions on “No Solution for your Life…just Suicide” when the cold season has arrived.

Azerath: Let’s start with a brief history of ‘Runenblut’, all your releases and the ones you have planed?
Morgoth: We decided to do some music together in early 2005, so we are still quite a young band. Fjalar took his knowledge about paganism, I grabbed my preferences for atmospheric medieval influences and so our first album “Die Stimme des Blutes” was born. For the second Album we decided to deal with different subjects. We did a journey to the human precipices and Fjalar created his Lyrics out of the hate and disgust, we felt for this world. My knowledge about sound engineering and the equipment I use has grown since this time, so I decided to produce the second album myself again. We wanted the music to be much more brutal as on our first album. With this basic materials, we created “No Solution for your Life, just Suicide”. Now we are thinking about how our third album should be. We don’t want to tell too much, just that it will take place in a fictive world that we create.

Azerath: What was your first band?
Fjalar: I can remember hardly, but I think my first piece of metal-music was a Megadeth album when I was 11 or 12 years old. Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Slayer etc. and then the heavier things like Cannibal Corpse, Mortification (yes, it is a “Christian death metal band” *laughing*) Hypocrisy, Unleashed etc. came. From this I came to Black Metal stuff like Burzum, Darkthrone, Satyricon, Dissection and Cradle of Filth (in the old vein).

Morgoth: When I was young, I liked stuff like Metallica, Pantera and Sepultura. Then I got my first Exodus album (the life album “another lesion in violence”) and was so fascinated by Tom Hunting. I never heard such a brutal drummer before. Then, I listened to some older Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir stuff, and got the first Dark Fortress album, witch directed me to Dissection and other bands like this.

Azerath: What is your opinion about Taaken (Odal) and why do you think he is into paganism and Satanism at once?
Morgoth: Taaken told me that he is neither a satanist, nor a real paganist. The lyrics of his project Wolfsschrei are simply against humanity and human life. It’s a misanthropic point of view and has nothing to do with real satanism.

Azerath: How Runenblut is changing through the years and especially from ‘Die Stimme des Blutes’ to ‘No Solution for Your Life... Just Suicide’?
Fjalar: The style surely has enhanced. Morgoth expands his musical abilities on and on. He is an exceptionally gifted musician! Like mentioned, we don’t want to follow a given path with Runenblut. We choose our style that it fits to our textual topics. Every album is, and will be an individual release. Everything else is still written in the stars.

Azerath: How would you describe the Runenblut's music and your lyrics?
Runenblut: The musical Style of Runenblut is much diversified. Different elements melt together to one iron core. It’s filled with hate and contempt, but sometimes very dreamful and creative. You can hear some old school, some professional Black Metal but also calm and meditative parts. The lyrics are mostly held simple. We want to bring our message directly to the listeners and don’t mince matters, although there are songs that give you some stuff to think about, like “Sometimes in the Night” or “Holocaust of Winter”. Everything will be set to a bundle until it seems adequate for us.

Azerath: Everyone is influenced by something. Which band has influenced you most?
Fjalar: This is a difficult question. I try to be uninfluenced by other bands, but I often listen to bands like Emperor, or dirty satanic underground black metal, when I sit down to create new lyrics.

Morgoth: I don’t feel influenced by other bands. When I play an Instrument I just play what is in my head. The only influence may be in my subconscious mind. The times where I played riffs from other bands, to improve my guitar skills are over. But I am inspired by some Bands. This is not “influence”, but an impulse to create something. When I listen to Taake, for example, I just want to sit down and write some new songs.

Azerath: How do you see your local scene?
Runenblut: The scene in our environment is rather shuffled. There are many old school freaks who like the good old bands. But the fraction of the mainstream black metal guys is more dominant here. There is no real underground scene. Generally we stay away from the most people, so we don’t matter.

Azerath: Do you believe in global jewish conspiracy? What is your feeling of nowadays situation in Germany? By your opinion, what should happen to turn the situation to better?
Fjalar: I am sure, that there are some machinations on this planet, that don’t do any favour to the people. But no one can prove that. My interests are definitely with “world conspiracy, illuminate, etc” but all those infested minds on earth have to be clear first to realize what is going on. The situation in Germany is miserable! Social riot, unemployment, etc. The time has been there years ago, to resist against the manipulators in the still engaged BRD. Sadly, the allies have managed to drum the opinion into the mind of the people that they want them to have. Freedom of opinion is one of the greatest lies in this society. The people in Germany finaly have to comprehend how and particularly THAT they have to bridle. Against the state, this social policy and the occupying force. And how…? Some other nations are showing this at the moment.

Azerath: What do you know about our country – Bulgaria?
Runenblut: Sadly, we can’t say much about Bulgaria. We haven’t dealt with this country much, yet. But you got about 80% of Christians in your country. This is changeable, isn’t it? ;-) We are sure that it’s a very interesting country, and if the money will be there some day to see the world, we will visit Bulgaria.

Azerath: Well, that’s all. Thank you very much! Your last words to our readers?
Thanks to you and the listeners of Runenblut. Thank you for the Support. Hail to the abnormal world of thoughts in all our Heads. This is the last freedom we can enjoy!
